There are two ways you can change your nickname in Microsoft Comic Chat.
The first way is to use the IRC command /nick This command is used in the following way: "/nick MyNewNick" (replace MyNewNick with the new nickname you want to use, and remember not to use the quotation marks). Here is a very quick example:

The reason for this is that Microsoft Comic Chat has a flood protection feature built into it; if someone is sending a lot of messages out into a room, the ignore feature is triggered. Quick repetition, also known as "scrolling," does this.
It is possible to turn this feature off completely or make adjustments to the setting. To make adjustments to the setting, go to the View menu and then select Automation. (You can also press Ctrl-L.)
In the general tab of Automations, you will notice something very similar to this:

To disable this option, all you need to do is un-check the box next to Auto ignore enabled.
If you want to leave this feature on, but you'd like to adjust the setting, we suggest the following settings:
Message count: 10
Interval (sec.): 5
This means that if somebody sends 10 messages to you or to the room within a period of 5 seconds, they will become automatically ignored.

In order to be able to hear wav or midi files played by other people with whom you are chatting, you need to have a copy of the sound file they are playing on your hard drive; this file needs to be placed in a location where your Microsoft Comic Chat will look for sounds -- and for a lot of people, this location will be the Windows media folder (C:\windows\media).
If you see a sound file played by somebody and think you would like to hear it, the quickest way to get it is to ask the person if they could send you the sound they just played.
If you need help with sending and receiving files, you can return to the contents of this document and see our special page on the topic.

If somebody has played a sound that you would rather not hear right now, there are two simple ways to stop it.
The first way is to go to the View menu and click on Stop Playing Sound. The sound should immediately stop playing.
The second way to stop a sound that is currently playing is to use the command "/sound off" (you do this without the quotation marks). Here is what that would look like in your chat:
The only people who can see whispers are the people you have selected to receive them.
Like the other commands, there are several different ways to whisper. The first and easiest way can be used to whisper to either one person or multiple people at the same time. (Tip: To select more than one person, hold down the control key while selecting their names with your mouse in the user list.). Then all you need to do is type in your message, and press the whisper button as shown (alternatively press Ctrl-W). Here is an example:

There are two easy ways to switch between comic and text modes.
The first way you can do this is by right clicking on a black area of the chat screen (where the text or comic frames appear in the middle of the screen) and selecting either "Comic Strip" or "Plain Text."
The second way that you can switch between comic and text mode is via the View menu; select the view menu, and then select "Comic Strip" if you want to view the chat in comic mode (or select "Plain Text" if you wish to use text mode).
