The Comic-Reach.com IRC network was formed by the combination of the comic-chat.com and the Reach-Chat.com IRC servers to form a larger network for users of the Microsoft Comic Chat IRC client.
Comic-Chat.com and Reach-Chat.com IRC servers merged around March of 2003.
The Comic-Chat.com servers opened for operation for the very first time in November 1999. The server was originally used as a back-up server for just a small number of rooms (on the origional Microsoft IRC network).
The server was running on a 133MHz system with only 48MB RAM, using the IRCD-type server.
In January of 2000, the server swapped the old IRCD type for Microsoft's own IRCX server software. (This is the same software that the "Microsoft Network" servers used before they were closed).
Comic-Chat.com later updated their server hardware several times to support the growing userbase.
Sadly the Comic-Chat.com side of the Comic-Reach network is no longer active it's owner passing in late 2005; however the comic-chat.com
memory will live on with the Comic-Reach network continuing to thrive.
Reach IRCX Chat Service (Reach-Chat.com) started in a conversation during a real life meeting of internet friends.
The idea spawned a chat service that is dedicated to Microsoft Comic Chat. This service started in August 2002.
We pride ourselves in running server software that Micrsoft Comic Chat was made to run on instead of using a cheap imitation.
After merging with Comic-Chat.com in 2003, the service has had several face lifts but the mission has stayed the same.
Microsoft Comic Chat is still our number one chat client. Even though Comic Chat is somewhat nostalgic today,
we still feel it is the best interface to chat with and the least boring. :P
Although the owner of the Comic-Chat.com server passed away in 2005, the Comic-Reach network will continue to move forward.
We will continually strive for the best chat experience, not the most users.
Our counterpart in the 2003 merge will never be forgotten, nor will the Comic-Chat.com legacy.
